What kinds of discrimination are prohibited under the Act?
All protected persons1 have the right to non-discrimination in the private or public sector. Any denial, discontinuation or unfair treatment in the following amounts to discrimination:
- Employment or occupation,
- Healthcare services,
- Educational institutions and services,
- Access to goods, accommodation, services, facilities, and public spaces ( such as shops, restaurants, hotels, wells, burial grounds),
- Right of movement,
- Right to reside, purchase, rent, or occupy property,
- Standing for or holding public or private office,
- Government or private establishments providing care or custody, and
- Insurance (unless supported by actuarial studies).

A protected person includes people who are HIV-positive, people currently or previously living with an HIV-positive person, and those who have lost a partner or guardian to AIDS.
