THE HEALTH RIGHTS PROJECT

Can my HIV status be revealed in court proceedings?

If a person with HIV is party to a litigation, they can ask the court to use a pseudonym for them in all records, hold the hearing in private (not open to the public), and stop anyone from publishing information that could identify them.

Anyone who reveals an individual's HIV status during a court case without the court's permission can be fined up to ₹1 lakh.
