Can I get an abortion if an anomaly/abnormality is detected in the foetus?
Abortion can be sought if there is substantial risk that, if born, the child will have serious physical or mental disabilities, conditions or illnesses. Up to 20 weeks of gestation, the opinion of one Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) is required. Between 20 to 24 weeks, the opinion of two RMPs is required.
If the Medical Board diagnoses a substantial abnormality in the foetus, abortion can be sought at any gestation period.
